“book jacket” teaser

The last time you perused the internet for some tantalizing fare, you may have come across Darla. What you can know for sure about DarlaPomPom is that she’s reaching epic internet porn star status. After two years working long days and even longer nights, she has tons of followers on all the social media outlets and her clips have more downloads than some of the bigger names in the biz. What you may not know about her is that she grew up much like you. She could’ve been any girl in your high school. Well not just any, but one of those cute cheerleader types who everyone thought was the most likely to succeed at something other than spreading their legs.

Everything’s looking up for Darla in her kingdom of g-strings and lube until the arrival of Mandy Minnesota, an underage, more naturally pretty up and comer. For the first time, Darla worries she’s on shaky ground, and with the disappearance of her roommate, Sam, she also worries the world she’s reigning over is not what it seems. There’s also the not only unexpected but inconvenient interest shown in her by camera operator, CameraMan Dan. With all the mounting drama, Darla’s not so sure she has time to care about love or anything like it.

The real timer goes off on the bomb of a life she’s been leading, however when her manager’s father, Daddy B – the Kingpen of Daytona porn, comes knocking on their door to collect what’s owed him deciding to take Mandy as compensation. This leaves Darla faced with whether or not she’ll choose what’s right not only for herself but for this newbie. Will she be able to save Mandy from Daddy B’s clutches and if so, what will be left for either of them after the life they’ve been leading? Can a porn princess ever truly go home?

In a Tarantino meets Jodi Picoult kind of style, #DarlaPomPom looks at what it takes for a young girl to love herself in the context of pornography. It also helps the reader to identify with porn stars, while challenging them to decide what they think about the industry. Though this material may seem dark, I have a keen interest in what this saturation of sexual images is doing to our culture.  Being a recovering porn addict myself, along with having grown up during the dawn of internet porn, and having taught young girls for years, I know first-hand that porn is not a neutral topic. It is indeed affecting every aspect of our relationships and my goal is to make its effects a less taboo topic.
